Mothering

Some houses try to hide that fact
That children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly--
The signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows,
Little smudges on the doors.
I should apologize, I guess,
For toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children
And we played and laughed and read.
And if the bathtub doesn't shine
There eyes will shine instead.
For when, at times, I'm forced to choose
The one job or the other,
I want to have a lovely house,
But first I'll be a mother.

That about sums it up for me!

My friend Jen had her baby today at 3:25am. They named him Emmerich. I haven't heard that name so I looked it up. It is a Pennsylvania dutch name that means hard worker (She is Amish at heart...quilting bees here I come!).

Today I got 78 points in Quiddler and found out that gi isn't a word. I thought it was a karate uniform?

Beds and Cats

Tonight was Jenna's first night in her big girl bed. Currently it is about 10pm and she is still not asleep, rather talking in her bed, but it is a start. She asked to sleep in her big girl bed tonight so we obliged. We were going to transition her anyway in a few weeks. Our bedtime routine consists of brushing her teeth, reading a story and saying prayers. Here is a picture of Jenna and Dada reading a story and brushing teeth on her big girl bed. Then we put her to sleep in the bed for the first time. how exciting.

Her room is a bright purple color with yellow flowers stenciled around the top. We (I) wanted a flower/butterfly themed room as you can see. We got an old hand-me-down dresser from Missy and Erik painted it white and put cute butterfly knobs on it. So adorable!!

This post is titled Beds and Cats because all week this black cat has come by torturing poor Scruffles. You can see the video here. They have been screaming at each other through the window for days now! Erik has been chasing him away but I think it is pretty funny. It's wearing poor Scruff out though.
In other news:
  1. I have morning sickness in the afternoon - Yea! As long as I'm sick I know the baby is doing okay.
  2. I started reading the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Pretty good so far!
  3. I just finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Apparently it will be made into a movie. I think it will be pretty good. I liked the story.
  4. I got 67 today in Quiddler. Apparently "goo" is a legal word.
  5. I'll be trying to make Korean food on Thursday. I'll be making a Korean cucumber salad and Korean chicken bowls. The marinade for the chicken sounds pretty good and I'll be making jasmine rice to go with it. Hopefully it will be good.
  6. Today we voted and Jenna got a cute sticker that said "I voted". Then to celbrate voting we went to Los margaritas - a yummy Mexican restaurant. Jenna actually ate a chicken enchilada and rice!
